Jar of Feathers

img_0733I keep a jar of white feathers in my office. When I meet with a teenage girl or woman who is struggling, hurting, or just seeking answers, I give them a feather to remind them of Psalm 91:4.

He will cover you in His feathers. He will shelter you with His wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Psalm 91:4

Over the past few months I have been learning about Human Trafficking. I have talked with many, including law enforcement, organizations fighting against trafficking and some victims as well. While I am unsure exactly how to get involved and where to start, there is one thing I do know. God knows where to start. He loves these dear ones more than I ever can. So I will start today… in Prayer.
As I look at my jar of feathers I’m reminded I can pray for these children and women right now that they will be protected, saved from the horrors of slavery and drawn closer to God. I can pray for the organizations working with these precious ones and I can pray for the hearts of their captors and abusers. That they would turn their life around. I can pray that those in slavery today would be freed. I can pray that they would be covered in the love of Jesus, covered in His grace, covered in His feathers.

I’m an alarm person.  I have a few alarms on my phone that go off daily.  One alarm wakes me up at 5:00am.  When I actually get up… well, that depends on how many times I push snooze.  Ha ha.  The second alarm goes off at 9:00am.  This one reminds me to drink water.  Ya, I know it’s ridiculous, but it works.  Then another goes off at 9:14am and 9:14pm.  At these times I stop what I’m doing and pray .  Psalm 91:4 says,

He will cover you in His feathers, He will shelter you in His wings…

That is my prayer for the 45.8 million people in slavery today.  I pray for their protection and safety.  I pray that their captors will be exposed and arrested.  I pray these precious people will heal.  I pray their dignity will be restored and I pray they will experience the love of Jesus.

Will you join me?  Just set your alarm for 9:14am and 9:14pm.  Let’s cover these dear ones in prayer morning and night.
